Prior to becoming a licensed attorney on November 5, 2015, Mr. Levitt attended DePaul University both as an undergraduate student, where he attained his Bachelors of Science Degree in Economics, and as a law student, where he obtained his Juris Doctor Degree in May of 2015. Throughout his time at DePaul, Mr. Levitt earned a remarkable number of honors. While frequenting the Dean’s List nearly every semester, he also received the highest class grade in evidence, advanced criminal procedure, and criminal drafting, and was recognized as an Honors Scholar with the school’s Center for Public Interest Law. Mr. Levitt knew from an early stage that his interests lie with defending those facing the most serious penalties our legal system imposes, as he graduated with a Certificate in Criminal Law. He also received the Benjamin hooks Distinguished Public Service Award for completing over 200 hours of community service while attending school.

Through his internships during law school with the Office of the Cook County Public Defender, other boutique legal firms, and the school’s Civil Rights Legal Clinic, Mr. Levitt performed extensive work on a number of serious matters, including the first and currently only case in which the state of Illinois has brought terrorism charges, Jon Burge-related civil rights litigation, as well as performing all aspects of trial work on charges ranging from weapons and drug charges to first-degree murder, obtaining a number of acquittals or dismissals in the process.

Upon graduation, Mr. Levitt worked for another boutique federal criminal defense practice under the guidance of two former Assistant United States’ Attorneys. There, he specialized in all manner of federal criminal practice, including white collar and fraud offenses, terrorism and national security matters, violent crimes and drug offenses, government investigations, and appellate and post-conviction matters.

Mr. Levitt joined the Law Office of Damon M. Cheronis in 2016. He has participated in multiple trials at both the federal and state level, as well as drafted and argued numerous appellate briefs and post-conviction petitions before both the Illinois Appellate Courts and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He focuses along with Mr. Cheronis on all firm matters, including federal and state criminal trials, appellate and post-conviction litigation, and criminal investigations.
