Illinois man faces drug charges after high-speed chase

Drug-related crimes can be a damaging mark to have on your record. The blemish on your reputation can affect your job prospects and even result in strained relationships with friends and family. Even if you are not convicted, the charges can be emotionally draining to face. In one such case, a young man in Illinois is now facing charges of drug possession after being stopped by police in Wayne County.

The 20-year-old driver, who hails from Chicago, is alleged to have been traveling at more than 100 mph one Thursday morning when he was noticed by police. The chase began at about 2 a.m. and culminated in the driver pulling over after a four mile pursuit. Members in the Richmond Police Department, as well as a deputy from the Wayne County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police were involved in tracking the man down.

The sheriff's department also brought a K-9 unit to the scene, leading to a search of the man's vehicle. The investigation apparently turned up a quantity of marijuana within the vehicle. As a result, the young driver now faces charges of possession, possession with intent to distribute, reckless driving and resisting law enforcement.

Any one of these charges could have serious consequences for this driver. Aside from hefty fines and the damage to his reputation, he could also face several years of jail time if convicted. If you find yourself in a similar position, your primary concern will probably be how to prove your innocence.

In incidents like this one, it is important to verify whether the police carried out their roles correctly. If they have acted inappropriately during the arrest or search, their case may not stand. A knowledgeable attorney can help you ensure that you have covered every angle. By approaching the case carefully and diligently, you can greatly improve your chance of clearing your name and protecting your future.
