As we discussed in a post a couple of weeks ago, a person can end up with a major prison sentence if they are convicted on a federal drug charge. The serious nature of federal drug crime charges is a very important thing to be aware of.
It is also important though for a person to not let such awareness lead them to making incorrect assumptions regarding state drug crime charges. One such incorrect assumption that is sometimes made is that state drug charges generally are not that big of a deal. On the contrary, such charges can be remarkably serious and can carry some very big penalties for those convicted of them. This can be seen in a recent sentencing in a state drug case here in Illinois.
The case is from Kane County and it involves a man from Aurora.
Authorities alleged that, in July 2013, the man sold heroin on four occasions. A Class 1 felony charge of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance was brought against the man in relation to these allegations. In February of this year, a jury found the man guilty of this charge.
The sentencing decision in the case was made on March 25. The judge in the case gave the man a 10-and-a-half-year prison sentence.
As one can see, big prison sentences in drug cases are not something that are limited to just federal drug cases, but rather are something that can also occur in state drug cases. Thus, having good legal advice and guidance can be of great importance when facing state drug charges here in Illinois.
