39 individuals charged for involvement in alleged drug ring

According to the U.S. attorney's office in Chicago, two men were recently arrested for their alleged leadership in a drug ring. They, along with 25 others, were arrested as part of a nationwide effort to target those trafficking illegal drugs.

Narcotics offender may face more time in prison due to murder allegations

A 30-year-old Chicago man facing sentencing on federal drug trafficking charges may again have to deal with murder charges involving the deaths of an off-duty Chicago police officer and a woman companion back in 2008. While he has already been acquitted of those charges, prosecutors have said they plan to introduce evidence at his sentencing on six narcotics trafficking counts that he is responsible for those deaths.

In our last post, we continued speaking about the topic of search and seizure. As we've noted, police are bound by various procedural requirements in conducting these activities, and failure to follow those procedures can result in exclusion of incriminating evidence from trial, weakening prosecution's case. The exclusionary rule, as this is called, is something defense attorneys sometimes make use of in cases involving drug charges.

In our previous post, we began looking at the recent charges against Philadelphia rapper Bernie Sigel, who was arrested during a traffic stop after police found prescription pills, marijuana, a gun and cash inside his vehicle.
