What happens if I am charged with trafficking drugs?

The definition of drug trafficking is the sale and distribution of illegal drugs. The difference between possession and trafficking usually has a lot to do with the amount of drugs that you have. Many times, the person accused of this crime will need a good attorney on his or her side who can ensure that the authorities aren't just going for an arrest no matter what the evidence is.

Some of the drugs that are considered to be illegal are marijuana, heroin, meth and others such as spice. The punishment for trafficking is stiff and you will be facing jail time and a hefty fine if you are convicted. It really depends on how many times you have been arrested for this charge in the past and how much of the illegal drug you had on your person, in your home or in your car. If you sold to minors, the penalty is even greater. The jail term is usually from three to five years.

Drug trafficking or distribution is a felony and is much more serious than drug possession. If the police believe that you meant to sell the drugs you have, they can charge you with trafficking. The advice any good attorney would give you is to cooperate to an extent by refusing to answer any questions and ask for a lawyer. After your attorney knows the story, he or she will be able to guide you through the system.

This attorney will ensure that the chain of evidence was maintained lawfully. He or she will also see to it that the search of your person, home or car was done lawfully.

Being charged with trafficking is frightening. Having a good legal representative by your side can make a huge difference.
